Improvements

Yes, there are definitely some that can be made. I modelled it on the Ancient Egypt one which I liked quite a lot, but decided to give it a different colour naturally. Some of the things I have put in there may very well be Hellenistic (esp. the later writers) rather than Ancient Greece, so feel free to change these. You may want to add more categories (such as cultural ones) to it, but try to keep it from being overcrowded --Knucmo2 21:39, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have added a new category of Famous Greeks. I think this is a key area we have missed out on - but i wasn't sure quite what to call it. Pjmc 07:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to add Plato to the list, but I couldn't figure out how the current entries are ordered. -- intgr 15:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Plato is already in the list - it was under Philosophy, which i have now changed to Philosophers to make it a little clearer. Pjmc 16:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Arch of Hadrian

This arch was built during the Roman era, so should it be in this template which is about Ancient Greece, before Roman rule?

Name removaledit

I removed a few names from the template which seem to have crept onto it in the past year or so: Demonax (the philosopher), a page I myself wrote, but whom I certainly don't think counts as one of the top twenty philosophers of ancient Greece. Theognis of Megara - a very poorly written page which I can make little sense of whatsoever. Coroebus of Elis - an athlete who won the first Olympic Games, but about whom little seems to be known. Demonax (lawmaker) - a man who apparently reformed the constitution of the Cyrenaeans, but doesn't seem to be nearly as important as Solon or Lycurgus. Free free to justify their inclusion is anyone wants to put any of them back. Singinglemon (talk) 21:47, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Replyreply

Greek numeralsedit

Where would the best place be to put in links to Greek numerals and Attic numerals? I was thinking that they might fit into the Writing section. While they might not be articles in high demand, I believe they should be highlighted in this template because they are integral parts of Greek writing. In literature, numbers come down to us as spelled-out words, but in the papyri and on inscriptions numbers are usually in one of these forms. Thus to complete the writing section, I think the links to the numeral articles are needed. Does anyone have objects to me putting these articles in the Writing section of this template? I didn't want to make a major change like that without some input. Amphipolis (talk) 14:10, 31 May 2011 (UTC)Replyreply

Shifting groups/cultures into People sectionedit

28-July-2011: Into the People section, I have moved the people groups from the bottom Lists (such as: Playwrights · Poets · Philosophers · Tyrants · Mythological figures) and also moved the cultures (such as: Ancient Greek tribes · Greeks · Thracian Greeks · Ancient Macedonians). Otherwise, it was confusing that no "Poets" were mentioned in the People section. The key issue is that those other articles are describing groups, or whole cultures, but they still refer to "People" while the article-format, as being lists (rather than prose), was a side-issue, just cluttering the key issue of them being groups of people. -Wikid77 (talk) 18:23, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Replyreply

Please add Selinunte and Agrigento to the City states section. (these two together with Syracuse were the most important of the Greek colonies on Sicily) 31.21.58.243 (talk) 15:23, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Replyreply

Akragas (Agrigento) and Selinous (Selinunte) are already included in the template; look at the section of "Sicily", under "Greek colonisation". I will remove Syracuse and Cyrene from the "City states" section, since they are also mentioned under "Greek colonisation". The importance or size of the listed settlements doesn't have anything to do with their classification. However, the compartmentalization of the template is a little bit problematic; many of the settlements that are listed under "Greek colonisation" were indeed city states as well.  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Cannolis (talk) 15:17, 21 May 2022 (UTC)Replyreply
